Borussia Dortmund 2 Real Madrid 2: Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane on scoresheet as Andre Schurrle snatches late equaliser

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring and then produced a wonderful cross for Raphael Varane as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also found the net

ANDRE SCHURRLE'S late thunderbolt was enough for Borussia Dortmund to rescue a well deserved point after Cristiano Ronaldo had given the visitors the lead.

The Portuguese superstar responded after his strop last weekend to score the opening goal before playing his part in Madrid's second with a wonderful delivery which Raphael Varane eventually poked home.

In a frantic start at the Westfalenstadion, Ronaldo's free-kick after two minutes stung the hands of keeper Roman Burki but it didn't take long for the striker to break the deadlock.

13 minutes later Madrid launched a counter attack down the left with Karim Benzema who switched the ball over to Gareth Bale.

The Wales star burst into the box before producing a perfect back-heel into the path of Ronaldo who smashed it home for his third goal of the season.

But minutes before the interval and Dortmund were level.

Raphael Guerreiro's free kick seemed simple enough for Keylor Navas to deal with but the keeper surprisingly punched the ball into the chest of Varane and the ball rebounded into the path of Patrick-Emerick Aubameyang who poked home on the goal line.

Ronaldo then thought he had his second in the dying embers of the first half but his header with rightly ruled out for offside.

And the 31-year-old played a major role in Madrid's second when he whipped in a wonderful delivery into the path of Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman's volley cannoned the woodwork and fell to Varane who was left with a simple tap in after 68 minutes.

Dortmund pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded when substitute Schurrle found space in the area before powering an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net with four minutes left on the clock.
