Sam Allardyce sacked: Gutted boss insists he will return to football management after losing dream job
SAM ALLARDYCE insisted he'll return to football and bristled: ‘I’m no quitter.’
Big Sam was sunk was his own greed last night after being axed as England chief with no pay-off after just 67 days in the job.
A gutted Allardyce contacted Sky Sports News this morning and insisted that he only showed up at the meeting because he wanted to help friend Scott McGarvey land a job with agents who turned out to be undercover journalists.
Describing his conversation with Allardyce, Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol explained: “(Allardyce said he’s) extremely sorry, very down.
“A huge error of judgement. Personally he cannot put into words how sad he is that he’s lost his dream job.
“He will not quit football and it will not be his last job. Football is in his veins and he is not a quitter.”
Allardyce denied being greedy and insists that he only pitched up at the boozy meeting to help pal McGarvey land a job.
Solhekol continued: "Sam Allardyce says he went to this meeting first a foremost because Scott McGarvey is a man who he has known for 20 or 30 years and was desperate to get a job, from these people who turned out to be undercover reporters, and a salary and a company car.
"He didn’t go because he was being greedy or wanted to earn more money.
"He did it to do a friend a favour. He knew himself that he might get a contract for public speaking but he was doing it as a favour to a friend."
Allardyce will fly out of the UK on holiday this morning for a couple of weeks away to "reflect on what has happened to him".
