ZLATAN Ibrahimovic has revealed his brutal knee-draining routine as the 40-year-old's future remains in doubt.

The football superstar underwent knee surgery earlier this week as he continues to stretch his extraordinary career into his 40s.

This season he was a part of the AC Milan team who won Serie A for the first time in 11 years.

But the Swede revealed on his the work he had to have done to keep him fit and fighting during the season.

The video appears to show his left knee being drained of fluid using a syringe.

The process helps relieve swelling and help reduce soreness.

In the video's caption, Ibrahimovic writes: "Emptied the knee once a week for six months."

The striker is set to be out for eight months now he has had the knee surgery and likely won't return until midway through next season.

The surgery on his left knee was to repair damage by a previous anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Earlier this week, Ibrahimovic revealed on Instagram that he "played without an ACL in my left knee" for six months and he "barely slept" in that time.

There had been speculation that the legendary forward could call it a day but he said he intends to continue.

He made 23 league appearances for AC Milan in their title-winning season, chipping in eight goals and three assists.

He has played senior football regularly since 1999 when he came through at Malmo.
