MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed Juan Mata's exit after eight-and-a-half years at Old Trafford.
The popular Spaniard departs the Red Devils having made 285 appearances for the club since joining from Chelsea in January 2014.
Mata, 34, follows Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard in leaving on a free transfer.
In a tribute to the departing attacking midfielder, Man United wrote: "His team-mates and members of staff never tired of praising his professional attitude and positivity."
In a message posted to United's social media channels, Mata said: "From here, from the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford, at night, I'm alone.
"Actually this feels like a dream. I wanted to say thank you very much to all of you for your support over the years, and especially during the difficult times that we lived together.

"I will never forget you, thank you very much. All the best, from the bottom of my heart, and goodbye."
Team-mate Victor Lindelof said of Mata earlier this year: "As a player, the quality Juan has is amazing.
"His vision, his touch and his ability to see everything on the pitch are fantastic.
"As a person, he’s always happy and always positive. He's just a great guy."

Despite his advancing years, Mata is unlikely to retire this summer.
He said in April: "I still have a lot of passion and a lot of will to keep enjoying football.
"This is a dream come true to be a professional football player so I want to play as much as I can."
United's departing statement added: "Thank you for dedicating eight years of your career to United, Juan.
"Everyone at the club wishes you all the best for the future."
Mata scored 51 goals for the Red Devils, adding 47 assists.
He helped his side win the FA Cup in 2016, as well the League Cup and Europa League the following season.
Mata showed his class last month by staying out in the rain for several minutes to wave goodbye to United supporters.
