Football corruption scandal: City of London police drafted in by FA to help root out bung deals

FOOTBALL bung busters have called in the cops to probe corruption.

Premier League top brass threatened to raid bank accounts and phone records in a bid to root out dodgy deals.

And last night City of London police confirmed they have held talks with the FA.

A police spokesman said: “Officers will be reviewing any available material with a view to establishing whether any criminal offences have been committed.

“Following recent media allegations of bribery and corruption within football, detectives from the City of London Police’s Economic Crime Directorate have spoken to journalists involved and the FA.

“At this stage no formal allegations of criminal activity have been received.”

The FA launched their investigation when shamed Sam Allardyce lost his England job after telling undercover investigators how to get around third-party ownership.

Eight current and former Premier League bosses accused of receiving bungs as part of transfer deals are set to be revealed.

Barnsley axed assistant Tommy Wright yesterday following allegations he trousered £5,000 to bring in players to the club.

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink allegedly asked for a £55,000 fee to work for a fake Far East firm looking to flog players to his club.

And Leeds owner Massimo Cellino was shown in video footage explaining how to get around FA and Fifa transfer rules.

Hasselbaink has denied any wrong-doing while Leeds dismissed the allegations as a “non-story”.
