Former Rangers players plus staff and directors will be in attendance.

A said: "Rangers will this evening be honoured with a celebratory reception from the UK Government at the Scotland Office to mark the 150th anniversary of the club.

"Hosted by the Secretary of State for Scotland, The Rt Hon. Alister Jack, the event at Dover House, Whitehall will be attended by directors, staff, former players and a host of invited guests, and will be another prestigious moment in this special year for the club.

"Also in attendance will be the Scottish Cup, with the Light Blues having won football’s oldest trophy for the first time in 13 years just over a fortnight ago at Hampden when they defeated Hearts 2-0."

Gers managing director Stewart Robertson said: "We are very honoured and grateful to have been invited by the Secretary of State for Scotland to this very special event to mark the 150th anniversary of Rangers Football Club.

"I believe it speaks volumes for the contribution Rangers has made to our nation in a positive sense over these years that the club is being recognised in this manner, and we look forward to promoting the good name of Rangers even further this evening to invited guests from across the political spectrum, as well as wider society."

Elsewhere, next season's Rangers home top has been leaked online.

A jersey bearing a striking resemblance to one which was believed to have been mistakenly delivered to a fan a couple of months ago, appeared on the Rangers Megastore.

Priced at £64.99, the top was only available to view online for a few minutes before it was removed.

And fans couldn't buy it either as an error message would appear on screen when trying to complete a purchase.

The top itself is a throwback design to Rangers jerseys of the late eighties.
