SAM ALLARDYCE was axed by England after pressure from the Government.
SunSport can reveal FA chief executive Martin Glenn was contacted by Sports Minister Tracey Crouch when news of the sting broke.
An FA insider said: “After Sam’s meeting was made public there was Government contact and that put massive pressure on them to take action.
“They wanted to know about the reports of corruption and how it was being tackled.”
Allardyce, 61, met Glenn and FA chairman Greg Clarke on Tuesday where the ex-Sunderland boss apologised for what he was caught on tape saying.
Big Sam had told undercover reporters, posing as investors, how to get around transfer rules and mocked ex-boss Roy Hodgson.
Glenn and Clarke, knowing the scandal had gone to the very top, axed Allardyce later that day.
