Billy Gilmour would be perfect for Celtic transfer but he won’t go because of Rangers-daft family says Chelsea legend

CELTIC would be an ideal fit for Billy Gilmour next season - but his family wouldn't allow him to move there.

That's the view of an ex-Chelsea hero, who reckons the Scotland star needs to pick the next step in his career wisely.

, exclusively for the Scottish Sun, Nevin said: "I know Billy a bit and his family and yeah Rangers would suit his style and so would Celtic.

"Knowing his family though, the Celtic one is unlikely.

"He's different class Billy, he's a super player. But he needs to be playing for a team who plays good football which is suited to him. I think Celtic and Rangers style would work for him, but because of his family, it wouldn't be Celtic for him."

Nevin also cited another of his former clubs as being well-placed to take Gilmour on loan next season.

That's only if he doesn't force his way into the Chelsea team though, and Nevin says the Scotland midfielder is more than capable of doing so.

He said: "I would like to see him in Scotland, but Everton would also be good for him.

"Chelsea is good for him, I watched them at the end of the season and I think they needed Billy.

"There's been a bit of speculation that he and Conor Gallagher are going to Everton.

"I'd rather they stayed at Chelsea and got a game there, but if they did go over to Everton that's a nice core there and Frank (Lampard)'s got a little bit of push at Chelsea.

"Who knows what is going to happen over the summer? Obviously, the fixtures have just come out and of course, it’s Everton vs Chelsea, the first game of the season, so those loans might be held back for a week or so.

"(Billy) is so important to Scotland, there's not much he needs to learn, he's technically magnificent. He is good enough to be Scotland's central midfield player alongside Calum McGregor.

"I wouldn't want him to go to another team like Norwich again, he's done that and suffered that. He learned the lesson that football isn't always easy and sometimes it's a battle.

"It'll be intriguing to see what (Thomas) Tuchel does, there are a lot of good midfield players at Chelsea."
