Man Utd ‘ready to offload FIVE first-team defenders to make room for Erik ten Hag’s new transfers’ as he begins overhaul

They conceded 57 Premier League goals in a thoroughly disappointing season - their worst record for 43 years.

As a result, Ten Hag is hoping to lead a mass overhaul at the heart of their defence.

According to , Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams are all on borrowed time.

That would add to the host of players' wages the club got rid of after their contracts expired - Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani to name just a few.

The sales would enable them to dip into the transfer market and bolster their defence - which already includes the likes of captain Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

United have already been linked with a number of centre-backs in the summer window.

These include Ajax duo Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez - who Ten Hag is hoping to reunite with at Old Trafford.

Villarreal's Pau Torres has also been muted as a possible target.

In other areas of the pitch, the saga surrounding Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong continues to rumble on.

And another Ajax man who is being targeted by Ten Hag is winger Antony.

Man Utd fans are growing frustrated due to the lack of signings so far this summer.

The club are yet to secure any new players in the window - with rivals Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal having already completed deals.

Salt was rubbed into United's wounds earlier this week when reports emerged that Christian Eriksen had REJECTED a move to Old Trafford.
