Alfredo Morelos to Aston Villa transfer re-emerges as ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants to ‘cross Sevilla’s path’
STEVEN GERRARD is prepared to do battle with Sevilla for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
La Liga giants Sevilla are the favourites to sign the Colombian but reports of a formal bid being submitted are believed to be incorrect.
It's being reported that ex-Gers boss Gerrard wants to add Morelos to his Aston Villa side ahead of his first full season in charge at Villa Park
Estadio Deportivo are claiming the Villa gaffer has "put himself in Sevilla's path" over a deal.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Ibrox and is one of eight Rangers players who could leave on a free and sign a pre-contract elsewhere in January.
Before going down with a season-ending injury, Morelos had scored 18 goals in 41 matches for the Light Blues in 2021/22.
He played a key role in Rangers' Europa League run before being sidelined and Giovanni van Bronckhorst looked to have him back to his best.
Elsewhere, forgotten Rangers star Jake Hastie has signed for Hartlepool United.
Hastie burst onto the scene with Motherwell and joined the Ibrox club in 2019.
However he failed to break into the Gers first team and was sent out on several loans during his three years at the club.

He's had spells in Scotland and down south with Partick Thistle, Rotherham United and former club Well.
Last season he spent time with Northern Irish champions Linfield in a bid to find more game time.
He'll link up with a familiar face to Scottish football fans in Paul Hartley.
The former Celtic midfielder clearly has the Scottish market in mind given he's already added Reghan Tumilty, Euan Murray and Mouhamad Niang to his side.
And now Hastie becomes the latest SPFL product to make the switch as Hartley embarks on his first season in charge of the League Two outfit.

He told the : "Delighted to get Jake in.
"He's someone I’ve seen a lot of. He needs a change of scenery. Still a young lad. He needs a home and somewhere where someone can believe him. He’s got real pace. Very good in one on one situations and I know he will bring a lot of excitement."
