Tim Sherwood admits he would be interested in going back to Aston Villa as boss
Former Villans manager says he would be open to replacing Roberto Di Matteo... A year after he was sacked by the club
TIM SHERWOOD has hinted that he would consider a return to Aston Villa to replace Roberto Di Matteo.
The Italian coach was sacked on Monday by the Championship strugglers.
Di Matteo, who only took over at Villa Park in June, spent £50million on new players this summer but his additions have failed to save him his job.
The ex-Chelsea boss had won just one of his eleven league matches in charge and his dreadful start to the season has led to Dr Tony Xia firing him this week.
Sherwood rescued Villa from relegation two seasons ago and led them to the FA Cup Final.

He was sacked, however, early last season after a poor start to the campaign – but his replacement Remi Garde struggled too as the club were relegated from the top-flight.
Sherwood is disappointed to see another man lose his job so early into his tenure, but he believes the Villans have enough quality within their ranks to turn their fortunes around.
He told talkSPORT: “I’m disappointed for Roberto. But he knows, as we all do, that it’s a results business and if you don’t get results you’re going to be under pressure to lose your job.
“I’ve looked at a few of their performances and I think they’ve got good players certainly capable of playing in this division.
“When a club spends a lot of money it puts more pressure on the manager, and they brought in a lot of players with a lot of experience to play in this league.
“I think they are very, very close to putting a run together. They’ve got a huge squad there and they’ve got quality.
“Roberto is an experienced manager but sometimes it just doesn’t work for you. That’s the way the game is, it’s all very small margins.”
Despite the struggles of his side, and the bitter taste of his own sacking still fresh in his memory, Sherwood would still consider a return to the Midlands club.
He added: “It’s a year since I left the club and in that time they’ve had three managers. So something has to change.
“Would I consider it? Listen, I don’t know these new owners. I was there under a different regime.
“But when you go into a club when someone [meaning new owner, Chinese businessman Xia] wants to really pick it up and take it forward, then it’s a great opportunity for any young manager.
“I certainly would be no different to anyone else.”
