CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN'S role in Manchester United's first team has been questioned by Rio Ferdinand and Danny Murphy.
Eriksen has verbally agreed to join United as a free agent, following an excellent spell with Brentford last season.
But club legend Ferdinand doubts whether the Dane will be a starter under new manager Erik ten Hag.
He said on : "I think Christian Eriksen is a squad player.
"He doesn’t come as a starter, I would be very surprised if he comes into Manchester United as a starter.
"I think he’ll come in and play a particular role in and around it.

"The position he is likely to occupy will be similar to Bruno Fernandes and I don’t see him taking him out of the team.
"Can you play both? Yes, but then have you got the person defensively behind them to be able to mop things up and secure things behind them? I question that.
"So there is a lot of positives with him because I think he is a fantastic technician with fantastic ability but if he’s coming to be someone who fills in here and there, I can see that.
"But Man United fans are anticipating big names coming in the door."

Eriksen's career was thrown into doubt after he suffered a cardiac arrest playing for Denmark at the European Championships last summer.
It forced his contract with Inter Milan to be terminated but in January, Brentford announced they had signed the playmaker.
Eriksen, 30, went on to shine in his return to the Premier League with one goal and four assists in his 11 matches.
The former Tottenham midfielder attracted attention from across Europe but it appears United have won the race.
But former Liverpool man Murphy was another to dismiss Eriksen's chances of being a regular in Ten Hag's line up.
He told : "Is he going to play in their best 11 to try and compete with Liverpool and Manchester City? I would suggest not.

"Eriksen's best position has always been one of three if you like, an attacking midfielder even coming off the wide areas, but more centrally, he has to have legs around him and athleticism around him.

"If you look at United's squad and I am sure there will be more players coming in, of course, it would be highly unlikely that you would see him start the big games alongside Fernandes with only one holding player. I just don't see that."
