Sterling, 27, had one year remaining on his City contract and has opted to leave the Etihad - he will become one of the top three earners at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now organising a medical for the former Liverpool ace to carry out ahead of a deal that will cost an initial £47.5m with another £2.5m in add-ons.

Sterling has already spoken to new boss Thomas Tuchel and has been impressed by the German.

After his medical, Sterling could fly out to the United States to join up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour.
