FRENKIE DE JONG'S agents have informed Barcelona that he WON'T leave this summer, in a blow to Manchester United.

The Dutchman is Erik ten Hag's No1 target this summer, with the Red Devils having been locked in negotiations with Barca for weeks.

United previously believed they'd struck a deal worth an initial £55million for the midfielder, only for it to stall over money owed to De Jong by Barcelona.

The deal has now stalled even further, because the 25-year-old doesn't want to move.

According to transfer expert , De Jong has "no intention" of leaving Barca this summer.

He states that the player's agents Ali Dursun and Hasan Cetinkaya have informed Barcelona of their client's stance.

De Jong is also reportedly unwilling to accept any salary reduction with the cash-strapped club, or to even entertain talks of that nature.

He agreed to a wage reduction during the pandemic to help cash-strapped Barca and is owed £24m.

Man United have been informed of the player's desires, with a potential deal having now hit the rocks.

Red Devils chiefs Richard Arnold and John Murtough flew to Barcelona this week to meet with director of football Mateu Alemany regarding a deal.

United were keen to get a deal wrapped up by midday on Friday, but this now seems extremely unlikely.

De Jong was set for talks with Barca today regarding his future and a return to training.

The Red Devils' only signing so far this summer has been Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord - with Ten Hag keen for more new recruits

The 52-year-old said: "In my first press conference I said already we are definitely searching for players in midfield, we also have a need in offence. We are still looking for players.

“It's going to be a long season but a season that is quite unusual due to the World Cup.

"So you need to be prepared for this and need more players than in a normal season.

“We want to add the right players. If the opportunity is there, we will strike.”
