Wolves’ pre-season friendly descends into chaos with FOUR players sent off after two mass brawls

WOLVES’ behind-closed-doors friendly with Levante descended into chaos as FOUR red cards were shown in the first half.

Bruno Lage’s side took on the LaLiga outfit in Benidorm as part of a training camp in Spain.

Wolves fell behind in the first half via a Roger Marti strike.

But that was far from being the main incident of the first 45.

Chaos ensued in the 34th minute when Wolves ace Yerson Mosquera took an almighty whack from Enis Bardhi while running down the right flank.

The Colombian reacted angrily to the challenge in front of the Levante bench, with a melee quickly breaking out.

More than 20 players, including substitutes from both benches, surrounded the incident, with plenty of pushing and shoving.

Mosquera and Bardhi were both shown red cards by the referee for their roles in the ugly incident.

The Levante players, who had already put in some aggressive challenges, wouldn’t let the issue lie and continued to surround the referee.

Play didn’t continue until the 40th minute and it wouldn’t be long before another flashpoint.

After a tangle of legs off the ball led to a Levante player being floored, another ruckus broke out a minute before half time.

Once again players grappled with each other, with the referee a mere bystander as hordes of stars from both teams, but particularly Levante, ran to get involved.

Daniel Podence was shown a red card, as well as another Levante player for their roles in the incident.

As the clock hit 45 minutes the referee blew for half-time, uninterested in trying to get the game restarted for any stoppage time.

With the prospect of nine vs nine in the second half an unappealing one, coaching staff from both teams came together to decide that the training game would be allowed to return to 11 vs 11, with Mosquera and Podence able to be replaced by substitutes.

The match would continue to be a feisty affair in the second period, with big challenges flying in.

Giorgi Kochorashvili struck Levante into a 2-0 lead, before Toto Gomes pulled one back from a corner late on.

Wolves were understandably miffed at the physicality, especially after seeing winger Chiquinho go down with a cruciate ligament injury in a recent friendly against Burnley.

SPUR OF THE MOMENT

Tottenham‘s clash with LaLiga side Sevilla last weekend also kicked off on the stroke of half-time.

The over-physical Spanish side’s full-back Gonzalo Montiel hurtled into Son Heung-min as he tried to foul the South Korean to stop a counter attack, only succeeding in barging into the forward’s elbow.

Montiel was bloodied by the incident and squared up to Son upon the half-time whistle, only to be separated from him by Cristian Romero, Richarlison and former Spur Erik Lamela.
