Chelsea miss out on Eder Militao transfer as Real Madrid star signs new contract with staggering release clause
CHELSEA'S hopes of signing Eder Militao this summer are over after the Brazilian signed a new contract at Real Madrid.
And the Spanish giants ensured they will not lose the defender cheaply by inserting a staggering release clause.
Militao, 24, put pen to paper on fresh terms this month before the squad flew out to the United States on their pre-season tour.
The deal ties him down at the Bernabeu until 2028.
A release clause of £425million has also been inserted into the contract to scare away any potential future suitors.
Chelsea were interested in Militao in recent months following the exits of centre-backs Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.

The pair departed for LaLiga to play for Real and Barcelona respectively.
Blues club captain Cesar Azpilicueta could also leave the club with Barca interested, leaving boss Thomas Tuchel even shorter at the back.
Chelsea's centre-back shortage could be solved by signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
A move for the Frenchman, 23, is a year in the making following a failed attempt to secure his services last summer.
