TO BE FRENK

Why Frenkie de Jong is snubbing Man Utd transfer, from new £4m Barcelona mansion to no ‘special’ Ten Hag relationship

MANCHESTER UNITED are not an attractive proposition to Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.

The midfielder, 25, is subject to a £71.5million bid from the Red Devils but is stalling over the move.

De Jong is keen to stay at his "dream club" Barcelona for several reasons, and United may not be able to persuade him to move to the Premier League.

The Netherlands star is happy in Catalonia and bought a £4million house in the city earlier this year.

He is well settled and planning a long-term future with fiancee Mikky Kiemeney, whom he got engaged to earlier this month.

There is also little incentive to join United since the Red Devils cannot offer De Jong Champions League football.

Even the prospect of working with his former manager Erik ten Hag is not that appealing since De Jong did not have a special relationship with the Dutchman at Ajax, report .

United would be able to offer De Jong more money but the club has been in disarray and a big rebuild is needed.

De Jong would seemingly rather stay and fight for his place at the Nou Camp.

A source close to the player suggests he has the mental strength to put the summer transfer speculation behind him in order to focus on becoming an important player under Xavi.

De Jong is also owed £17million by Barcelona after agreeing to defer his wages amidst the pandemic.

He is unlikely to leave until he reaches an agreement with the club over that dispute, with Gary Neville advising De Jong to take legal action.
