Eric Dier mocks Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli on twitter after the midfielder’s incredible miss for England

The Spurs superstar scored in the World Cup qualifier against Malta but missed an open goal in the second half

HE may be heralded as England's shining light, but Dele Alli showed he's still a human after missing an open goal from inside the six-yard box.

The Spurs superstar may have got his name on the score sheet against Malta, but it's his sitter that has left him to be ridiculed by team-mate Eric Dier.

After putting England 2-0 in their World Cup qualifier yesterday, Alli  - and the rest of the country, were duly expecting the back of the net to bulge in the second-half, but instead came one of the misses of the season.

Latching on to a cross from the lively Marcus Rashford, Alli burst into the box and brilliantly found himself all alone, but somehow managed to blaze his shot high over the bar when it looked easier to score.

Having just been named as the world's best young player by FourFourTwo, the 20-year-old was the butt of a joke from close friend Dier.

A recent video tweeted by England emerged last week, showing the former MK Dons star back-heeling the ball through the 22-year-old's legs without him even realising.

Dier was quick to pounce on the misfortune of Alli, tweeting: "how can you do that from 4 yards but miss a whole goal from 2?"

Alli has carried on his fine form from last season, starting six out of the seven league games, and scoring twice.

He was instrumental in Spurs beating table-toppers Manchester City 2-0 at White Hart Lane before the international break, maintaining the North London sides unbeaten start to the campaign.
