Struggling Wayne Rooney looks destined to sit on the bench again against Scotland
Man United ace will hang on as England skipper for now...but it could be curtains if Gareth Southgate becomes boss full-time
WAYNE ROONEY would appear to have even less chance of starting for England against Scotland than he did for this week's goalless draw in Slovenia.
That's the verdict of England insiders who say the Manchester United star WILL retain the captaincy of the national team even if he remains on the bench for the next 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Apparently, caretaker-boss Gareth Southgate won't consider replacing Rooney until he lands his own job full-time.

In the meantime, it seems Rooney, 32, will have to take a back seat with England when they face the old enemy at Wembley on November 11.

Not to mention Monday night at Anfield, where the United skipper could once again find himself blanked by Jose Mourinho when it comes to a starting place in the eagerly-awaited north-west derby.
On the England front Rooney must face the fact that four attacking players in Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck could well be challenging for a spot against the Scots following injury lay-offs.
The only way Rooney can be certain of an England recall is if he can produce some blistering form for United - and to do that he must first get back in the team.
