And that could see Darmian - who arrived at the club in a £12m deal last summer - move back to Italy with Inter Milan in a loan deal.

Barcelona have also reportedly shown an interest in the former Tornio star.

Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan have also been linked with a move for the former Torino ace, but Frank de Boer appears to have won the race for his signature.

Darmian, capped 26 times by the Azzurri, has been frustrated by his lack of game time and fears losing his place at international level too.
