Wonderful Walcott

Arsenal star Theo Walcott is thriving this campaign and is statistically having his best season in a Gunners shirt

The England winger has been an influential member of Arsene Wenger's squad so far as they sit level on points with Man City at the top of the table

THEO WALCOTT is already having one of his best ever seasons at Arsenal... and we've got the stats to prove it.

The 27-year-old winger is in his tenth year at the Emirates, and has been inconsistent for pretty much all of them.

But he revealed last month how something had "woken up inside him" after a fantastic start to the season.

He has already made more tackles in just ten matches this season than he did in the WHOLE of the last campaign, where he played 42 times.

The England ace has bagged eight goals, produced two assists, and seems like a different animal.

To put that into perspective, he only netted nine times last season and managed six assists.

We're not even a quarter of the way into the campaign...

He is also clearly being more selfish in front of goal and taking more shots, affecting his accuracy stats by a minimal amount.

Walcott has an envious conversion record this campaign, scoring with 25 per cent of the efforts he attempts.

He's also being a LOT more creative having nearly setting up half as many goal attempts as he did last season, but in just a handful of games.

And he is also covering more ground, getting up and down the right flank to help the marauding Hector Bellerin as much as possible.

The ex-Southampton youngster has faced a barrage of criticism in the last few years after a string of poor performances for the Gunners.

Last season's flashes of brilliance were outweighed by some shocking games, particularly one at Manchester United where he couldn't actually control the ball.

He was expected to leave the club in the summer, and had been dropped to the bench by Arsene Wenger.

But the Arsenal boss has always believed in Walcott, and has put his faith into him, even when others didn't.

And it looks like the Gunners star could finally repay what his mentor saw in him when he brought him for £12m in 2006.

He's already put in a number of excellent displays this season, most notably when Arsenal smashed Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates.

The winger was excellent again at the weekend, netting a brace in a 3-2 win over Swansea.

Walcott is simply a confidence player.

His greatest asset is his instinct, give him time, and he gets caught in two minds.

He said himself: "I spoke to many people and woke up something in my system - I am completely different.

"Maybe in the past I was thinking about others and not myself, but now I want it more than anyone else.

"It's a shame maybe it should have hit me a few years ago because there's been a slight change in my whole attitude."

The season has barely started, and hasn't fully taken shape yet.

But if Arsenal can keep Walcott firing, and make sure their squad stays fit, the Premier League title is there for the taking.
