GARY NEVILLE fired up his stormy relationship with Liverpool fans on Twitter by mocking claims 'greatness happens' at Anfield.
The former Manchester United star hit out at the Kop first thing Monday morning, as he tried to mask the pain of seeing Jose Mourinho humiliated 4-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
He could not hold back when spotting a photo taken last Monday, after United's dire 0-0 draw against Jurgen Klopp's Premier League highflyers.
The pictured posted online shows a slogan claiming 'Anfield Where greatness happens'.
Despite Klopp taking Liverpool up to third while United languish in seventh, Neville tweeted
that it should read 'happened' in reference to the Merseysiders' failure to win a Premier League title.
But the Sky Sports pundit now fears his tweet could backfire if Liverpool are crowned champions of England for the first time in 27 seasons in May.
When @bajankris tweeted " clearly a deflection to hide from yesterday then Gary ? ;-), Red Nev was happy to admit he had been rumbled.
He replied: "Sort of!! I hope they don't win the league or that tweet could be painful!"
That could be the cue for more spicy banter with his Monday Night Football sparring partner, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
The two had plenty of run-ins in their playing days but Neville had a more stormy relationship with rival fans.
He famously ran the length of the pitch to celebrate Rio Ferdinand's late winner in front of Liverpool fans in an FA Cup tie in 2006.
He received a £5,000 fine for his infamous badge-kissing at Old Trafford but recently claimed he would have paid the fine 100 times over for that moment.
Neville said: "For 89 minutes, the travelling Liverpool fans had been singing unprintable songs about me and my mum.
"I looked at the faces of all those fans who had been singing, and in that moment, they had no answer. Absolutely no answer. It was one of the best feelings of my life.
"The FA fined me £5,000 for my actions. I'd gladly pay it again a 100 times."
There is a modern-day myth that two Liverpool fans who helped to build one of Neville's former houses, buried a Liverpool scarf under his swimming pool.
Neville recently told the Mail Online: "I don’t even live in that house any more, but I’m going to put it in my will that if anybody ever finds that bloody scarf, they must follow my final wish — burn it.”
