European Golden Boy: Renato Sanches beats Marcus Rashford to top prize after Portugal’s historic Euro 2016 win
Bayern Munich midfielder saw off competition from Manchester United ace to lift top youngster award
RENATO SANCHES has won the 2016 European Golden Boy award, according to reports.
The Bayern Munich ace was up against Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford and club teammate Kingsley Coman, but claims he will scoop the prize at an official awards ceremony this evening.
Sanches only broke into Benfica’s first team last season and was handed a contract until 2021 as he made 35 appearances in all competitions.

The 19-year-old was strongly linked with a move to the Red Devils but eventually opted for Bayern as the Bundesliga champions agreed a £30million deal which could rise to a staggering £70m.
Sanches then made history as he played a key role in Portugual’s historic Euro 2016 win, breaking numerous records due to his age in the process.
Sanches now replaces Anthony Martial as the new European Golden Boy, but Rashford is sure to be disappointed after a stellar year at Old Trafford.
