Former Tottenham left-back has outscored Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Co — is Switzerland’s leading marksman

Reto Ziegler has found back of net eight times for Sion this season — more than any player in Premier League or La Liga

RETO ZIEGLER is currently one of the hottest marksmen in Europe.

Yes, that former Tottenham left-back who competed with Timothy Atoube for a starting berth — and now plays in a more central defensive role — is the leading goal scorer in the Swiss league.

Which means he has outscored the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku and Robert Lewandowski.

Ziegler currently plays for Sion, who are second in the table but a whopping 12 points behind unbeaten Basel.

Despite playing as a central defender, he has managed to score eight goals — with two doubles in his last two games.

The now 30-year-old was brought to Tottenham as an 18-year-old by Jacques Santini back in 2004.

He scored just once during his time in the Premier League, but it wasn’t an issue at the time, given he’s a left back.

Ziegler was sent out on loan to three clubs before joining Sampdoria in 2007 and the briefly Juventus.

Again, the Swiss defender was loaned out on four occasions — winning two Turkish Cups with Fenerbahce in two different spells.

He moved to Sion in 2015 and has started this season with eight goals from 11 games.
