Dan's a doubt

Bournemouth’s Dan Gosling may miss clash against Middlesbrough with Andrew Surman lined up to replace him

Midfielder covered more ground than any Prem player last weekend - but is set to lose his place in Eddie Howe's side

DAN GOSLING has been run out of the Bournemouth side despite his stunning stats.

Midfield machine Gosling clocked up the most distance of any outfield player in the top flight last weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

Workaholic Gosling covered 7.4 miles to put him at number one in the charts on his return to the side.

But coach Eddie Howe has decided to leave him out for the return of Andrew Surman at Middlesbrough.

Gosling told the Bournemouth Echo ahead of the trip up north: "We were in Middlesbrough's position last season. Teams would come down here thinking they would roll us over – and, to be fair, a lot of teams did. Our home form wasn’t that good.

"But away from home, we were very good. Away from home this season, we haven’t done that badly.

"But we’d like to have a few more points and we want to get our first win. We’re definitely looking at this game as one where we want to get three points."

Bournemouth and Gosling impressed last week in the clash with Spurs, picking up a vital point in their quest to stay up avoid relegation.

So far this season they've looked like a team who have comfortable settled in the Premier League after being promoted last year, they sit in 10th spot, with three wins, three draws and three defeats.

Surman failed to play in last weekend's match at the Vitality Stadium due to illness, before that, the 30-year-old played every minute of the Cherries previous 86 games, amassing over 7,740 minutes.

Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough side go into the clash on good spirits having been unlucky not to record victory over Arsenal last week.

If not for the heroics of Petr Cech in the Gunners goal, Boro would have clinched their second Premier League win of the season.

They remain in 17th spot.
