JOSE MOURINHO and Ander Herrera were both sent off as Manchester United were held to a highly frustrating goalless draw by Burnley.

Despite having 72 per cent possession, 35 shots and 19 corners, United failed to break down Sean Dyche's well organised team.

Mourinho went straight to the stand after half-time after it emerged he was involved in a row with Mark Clattenburg over the referee failing to award Matteo Darmian a penalty.

Mourinho can't have been any happier from his higher vantage point, when he saw Ander Herrera sent off for a second yellow card.

Despite their dominance, wayward finishing and a stunning performance from England goalkeeper Tom Heaton was what kept United scoreless - Heaton made a string of excellent saves to leave United, and Mourinho, frustrated again.

United are now eight points off Premier League leaders Manchester City.

FACTS, STATS GOALS & LOLS

  • The table does not make great reading but Manchester United did everything to win this game.
  • United had 72 per cent possession, 19 corners and 37 shots.
  • The boos at the end were certainly not for the performance but the decisions of referee Mark Clattenburg.
  • There was a number of penalty shouts but Ashley Barnes foul on Matteo Darmian looked an absolute certainty.
  • Tom Heaton had an absolute storming game in goal for Burnley, back at his former club.
  • Paul Pogba still looks totally out of sync with the rest of the team. He takes too many long range shots that waste opportunities when United are on the attack.
  • Jose Mourinho was sent off at half-time for contesting a penalty shout when John Flanagan challenged on Matteo Darmian.
  • They looked bad, but Ander Herrera was trying to pull out of both challenges which he got the yellow cards for and resulting red.
  • This was Burnley’s first point away from home this season.
  • Sean Dyche’s side certainly look better equipped to stay up this time than they did two seasons ago. Gave there all yesterday to earn a point.
