Barcelona goalie Marc-Andre ter Stegen claims Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick only went in because he couldn’t see over the wall
The German was beaten by a terrific strike from the Man City star but insists there were too many bodies in the wall
BARCELONA keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has revealed why he failed to save Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick – he couldn’t see it!
The German goalie uncharacteristically leaked three goals against Manchester City on Tuesday evening as Barcelona succumbed to their first defeat in Europe this season.
Ilkay Gundogan bagged a terrific brace but De Bruyne stole the show with an incredible set-piece as City recovered from Lionel Messi’s early opener to record a spectacular comeback win.
And Ter Stegen feels he could have saved De Bruyne’s effort if the wall in front of him hadn’t been so big.
He said: “After the first half we lost our normal attitude, we had opportunities we didn’t take.
“It was hard to see the ball because there were many people. I wanted to know exactly where the ball was but De Bruyne is a player who knows how to shoot from everywhere.”

Meanwhile, the man himself is confident City have the ability to mount a real challenge in Europe’s elite competition.
De Bruyne said: “Barca is a very good team but I think we did really well and showed what we have got.
“Everybody will give everything they have got against us. We have to do what we know how to do.”
