MK Dons are ready call off a move to make Paul Mitchell their next boss because of a snag over the size of his wage at Tottenham.
Mitchell is head of recruitment at Spurs and fancies a crack at management, but he is on a high salary at White Hart Lane.
And as Mitchell is working the last five months of a one-year notice period it would cost him to take a drop in pay and head for Milton Keynes.

Now the Dons are poised to interview other candidates, with Steve Cotterill set for talks this week.
On October 23 MK Dons sacked manager Karl Robinson after more than six years at the club.
Robinson, who is still only 36, was the third-longest-serving manager in English football before chairman Pete Winkelman decided to swing the axe.
A 3-0 home defeat against Southend was the final straw with Robinson admitting after the match that many inside the club wanted him gone.
He told BBC Three Counties Radio: “I have to be honest – it [me leaving] is what a lot of people want.
Robinson also derided his players as ‘weak’ after the Southend loss.
