Suarez will follow Neymar in putting pen-to-paper on a new contract at the club, with Lionel Messi expected to follow suit.

Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets have also done likewise — while Real Madrid have tied down the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

And Atletico Madrid gave a new deal to Yannick Carrasco.

It is believed the spate of contracts handed out by major Spanish clubs to their biggest stars is to keep them out of the clutches of the Premier League.

TV money from the likes of Sky and BT Sport has seen the financial clout in England’s top division multiply.

And even Real Madrid and Barcelona know they cannot compete with the Premier League’s top clubs.

Suarez’s new deal would keep him at the Nou Camp until he is either 34 or 35.

He moved from Liverpool in 2014 — and won eight of the nine trophies available in that time.
