Barcelona news: Adidas start legal challenge over new Barca home shirt which they claim contains copyright infringement

Nike designed strip contains a three stripe pattern which Adidas says creates confusion among their customers

ADIDAS are claiming that Barcelona's new Nike home kit infringes on it's copyright - after using it's trademark three stripe pattern.

The Catalan giants strip is it's usually colours of dark blue and red, but this year's design has more than meets the eye when viewed up close.

And the German based sportswear firm claim that the three-stripe pattern used on the shirt is confusing customers - who identify that with their own brand.

: "In May last year, Barcelona filed a trademark for a red and blue three-stripe design at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

"The mark is described as a “square containing seven vertical stripes. The 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th stripes from the left are blue, and the remaining three stripes are garnet.

"Adidas filed a notice of opposition to the mark on October 31, when it said that Barcelona infringed its ‘Three-stripe’ mark."

Barca have begun this season in good form but have slipped to two defeats in La Liga, leaving them trailing rivals Real Madrid at the top.
