But the Brazilian club risked Barcelona's wrath by selling to Inter instead, reportedly leading to the La Liga side threatening to sue.

Despite Gabigol's lack of first-team action, the hitman could find himself staying put now that De Boer has been sacked.

Seasoned Italian manager Stefano Pioli has taken over at the San Siro and could reinstate Gabigol in a bid to jump-start Inter's season.

Inter are currently ninth in Serie A, 13 points behind leaders Juventus.
