The club claimed they had spoken to fans for 18 months before changing their crest, the first revision since 1993.
But Twitter users were quick to criticise the design.
Bees chief executive Mark Devlin claimed there were always going to be emotional issues when changing a badge but defended the club.
He said: "It's always an emotive subject when a club decides to change something as important as its crest.
"But part of our club's philosophy has always been about moving with the times and improving as we go.
