The 27-year-old had to sit out training with a hamstring strain and Arsenal boss Wenger has described plans to play him against Uruguay as a "suicidal decision."

Wenger has requested Sanchez get sent back to the UK for an assessment ahead of their blockbuster clash with Manchester United in Saturday's early kick off.

Gunners trickster Sanchez was snapped with a heavy-looking bandage on his right thigh on Sunday as he got stuck into training.

Wenger said: "I believe that with a hamstring injury, we have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grate it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure they don't make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months.

"That is absolutely important. It's a grey area between the national team and the club team and of course they look at their own results, which I can understand, but we have to preserve the health of Alexis Sanchez."
