Bastian Schweinsteiger to Chicago Fire: Manchester United star set for switch to MLS side after being expelled from Jose Mourinho’s squad

BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER is set to chance his hand on a move to Chicago Fire after being frozen out at Manchester United.

The Germany ace has not played a minute of football this season under new United boss Jose Mourinho.

But he has been training on his own, more recently re-joining the first-team squad to do sessions with the other star players.

Chicago Fire are the most likely suitors for the 32-year-old.

Meanwhile Schweinsteiger also declared himself ready for action should United need to call upon him for the forthcoming Prem season.

He said: "I'm trying to keep myself fit for the situation in which I am needed.

"Hopefully I will be given a chance. I look forward to training every day and being able to train with the team.

"I don't know if I will get a chance, but I hope so. I still feel fit at 32 and certainly want to play more years at the top level and of course I want to win things.

"If I am needed, I will give everything. I am ready."

United have been under huge pressure this season after failing to perform domestically and in the Europa League.

Mourinho has inherited a squad that he has criticised for not going through the pain barrier - and one that has found it hard to keep a clean sheet away from home.

But Schweini promised he still has the fighting spirit, clearly campaigning for more game-time before he leaves Old Trafford.

He added: "I am not one to think of burying my head in the sand.

"My rhythm is good - of course it's different when you play each weekend compared with when you are only training. But I enjoy my football."

Schweinsteiger posted a video with the music playing as he pulled into United's Carrington training ground last week.

He has also been linked with MLS rivals New York City - who are losing Frank Lampard - and LA Galaxy.
