Arsenal transfer news: Leandro Paredes emerges as January target for Arsene Wenger as he looks to reinforce midfield

ARSENE WENGER is weighing up a January swoop for Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes.

The Roma star, 22, has caught the eye this season with a number of strong performances since his return from a loan-spell at Torino.

He has burst into the first-team this season under the charge of Luciano Spalletti, establishing himself as a regular starter.

Wenger wants to bolster his midfield with some young talent and has already been in touch with Paredes' representatives in Italy.

The former Boca Juniors man is seen as one of Serie A's hottest prospects, but is under contract with Roma until 2019, which could prove to be a stumbling block for the Gunners.

A deep-lying midfielder, Paredes could prove good competition and backup as Arsenal mount a title-push in what could be Wenger's final season at the club.
