Eden Hazard: Chelsea star wins Premier League player of the month for October… but did he deserve it?
Blues man won it ahead of team-mates Diego Costa and N'Golo Kante - as well as Philippe Coutinho and others
EDEN HAZARD has been named the Premier League player of the month for October – but did he deserve it ahead of his rivals?
The Chelsea star scored three goals and added an assist for Antonio Conte’s side, who won all four of their games without conceding.
With the Italian switching to a 3-4-3 formation, Chelsea scored 11 goals in October, putting in impressive performances against Hull, Leicester, Manchester United and Southampton.
Hazard got the player of the month nod, surprisingly, for the first time since joining the Blues in 2012.
He won the award ahead of Blues team-mates N’Golo Kante and Diego Costa (also three goals and an assist).
Chelsea followed up their strong month with a dominant 5-0 win against Everton.
Hazard also won the award ahead of Stoke midfielder Joe Allen, who scored three goals and added two assists as the previously struggling Potters lifted themselves to 12th.
Mark Hughes’ team won three and drew one of their four matches.
Liverpool won all four of their games to stay top of the league, with Philippe Coutinho another beaten nominee after scoring a goal and adding two assists.
The final beaten nominee was Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The German scored twice and added an assist for Pep Guardiola’s team – but he didn’t start every game and City won only one of their four Premier League matches in October.
Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton put in a string of incredible appearances in October, making 11 saves against both Southampton and Manchester United and another seven in a win over Everton.
