Henrik Larsson quits as Helsingborg manager after him and his son are attacked by fans

HENRIK LARSSON has quit his job as manager of Helsingborg following the fan attacks on him and his son.

His side were relegated on Sunday after suffering a play-off defeat to Halmstad leading to masked supporters attacking the boss and his boy Jordan, who is a player at the club.

A statement from Helsingborg confirmed the legendary Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United star had chosen to walk away without compensation.

The 45-year-old and his 19-year-old son were met by a barrage of chairs and flags as they went to acknowledge supporters following their relegation.

Jordan was struck by masked fans who then demanded the shirt off his back.

Club director Mats-Ola Schulze said in a statement: “Myself, the board, Henrik Larsson and the rest of the leadership team, together with the players, in solidarity bear the responsibility for this relegation.

“We are obviously very grateful for the financial solution. I, together with the board, want to thank Henrik for the comprehensive restructuring that has been done in the football organisation during 2015 and 2016.

Larsson was a former player for Helsingborg.

He took charge of them in January 2015 after keeping minnows Falkenberg in the Allsvenskan the previous season.
