Manchester City’s Yaya Toure could play centre back as captain Vincent Kompany faces new injury layoff

Yaya Toure has just come back in to the squad after being frozen out by Pep Guardiola and now he could play a huge part for the remainder of the season

Guardiola has brought the Ivorian back into the fold

PEP GUARDIOLA is set to throw Yaya Toure in as his centre back with Vincent Kompany breaking down again with another injury setback.

The club skipper is set to be out for enough time to concern Guardiola to the point where he is to asses what he has at his disposal to try and patch up his defence.

Toure who came back with a bang scoring twice against Crystal Palace last week played in central defence for Guardiola when Barcelona won the Champions League in 2009.

The Ivory coast midfielder is tall and strong and offers the kind of style his boss likes in a central defender with an ability to play out from the back.

Perhaps at the age of 33 its a position Toure may well settle in to although he is still a major threat from his usual midfield role but he gives City options now he has returned.

As for Kompany its another layoff that the club cant really give a time for when the skipper can return but Guardiola is beginning to lose patience and will possibly look at signing another defender in January.

But depending on how well Toure performs the former Bayern Munich boss could well be happy to wait until the summer but City has been prone to conceding goals so it is now a waiting game for January to see where City are in terms of the title race.

Fernandinho has been considered as an option for a role in defence but there is a huge reluctance to lose his influence in the middle of the park.

The City board are more than willing to finance any move Guardiola wishes to make in January and have been scouting potential defenders that may well fit in to his plans.

Guardiola however will have the final say on if the player is good enough for his team but the club have taken note that an extra defender is possibly key to winning the Premier League again.

Toure was left out of the Champions League squad, which now with only one game left and having already qualified doesn't cause to much of a problem, but he is likely to be included come the knockout rounds.
