Premier League fastest players: Jamie Vardy and Kyle Walker the only men to feature twice in the top ten, with surprise winner
Surprise as striker clocks rapid 21.94mph speed
THE fastest player of the season may not be who you’d think.
Hector Bellerin? Theo Walcott? Kyle Walker?
Arsenal right-back Bellerin can run 40 metres faster than Usain Bolt.
Keep up-to-date with all the latest transfer news and gossip ahead of the January window with SunSport’s daily LIVE blog.
He’s clocked a time of 4.42 seconds for the distance, which is 0.22s faster than the Jamaican managed when he set his 9.58s world record in 2009.
But amazingly Bellerin does even make it onto the list of players to have run the fastest speeds clocked in Premier League games this season.
It turns out Shane Long can’t have done much relaxing over the summer.
And that’s because the Southampton striker managed a rapid 21.94mph on the opening day of the season in Saints’s 1-1 draw hosting Watford.
That is 79 per cent of the 27.8mph Bolt got up to in his world record sprint.
Bournemouth’s left-back Brad Smith may well be the fastest Prem footballer around.
The Aussie played his first 81 Prem minutes in the Cherries’ 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.
But he sits equal second after zooming along at 21.87mph.
Like Long, Sunderland’s American midfielder Lynden Gooch must have had a decent pre-season.
He also raced around at the same speed as Smith during the Black Cats’ spirited 2-1 loss to Manchester City on the first day of the season.
Tottenham right-back Walker and Leicester striker Vardy are the only two players to make it onto the list twice.
West Brom winger James McClean, Burnley forward Andre Gray, Man Utd defender Eric Bailly and Boro wideman Adama Traore make up the list of speedsters.
