Wigan boss Warren Joyce wants old Manchester United pal Andy Welsh to be his first 'signing.'

Joyce is asking chairman David Sharpe to bring in Welsh as his number two and pay Sunderland compensation for their under-23 coach.

Welsh was at United with Joyce and the pair are close. He may be tempted to move if the terms and length of deal are right.

Joyce also wants another ex-Old Trafford backroom man in Paul McGuiness who is available and out of work. He would come as coach.
