In show of solidarity with tragic loss of almost entire Brazilian team on LMI-2933 sport venues and landmarks turn green
LANDMARKS and sport venues from around the world have been lit green in a tribute to the victims of flight LMI-2933.
The Medellin-bound flight came down just 30km south of the Colombian city yesterday, resulting in the deaths of 71 people and the majority of Brazilian football team Chapecoense.
And the world has responded with a show of solidarity, lighting up their countries landmarks and football grounds in the green colours of the club.
In Paris, the Eiffel Tower was bathed in light last night as the world came to turns with a tragic event which has seen an entire squad practically wiped out.
Brazil have declared three days of national mourning following the tragedy and turned Christ the Reedemer - the iconic figure standing watching over Rio - a dazzling green in tribute.
In Germany, Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena followed suit, as did Wembley - turning it's famous arch into the club colours.
It has since been claimed that a lack of fuel to the engines caused the reported electrical fault initially thought to be responsible for the crash.
Chapecoense, founded in 1973, were preparing for the biggest match in their short history, having defied the odds to reach the Copa Sudamericana final.
Three members of the side were not on the plane because they were due to miss the clash through either injury or suspension.
Hundreds of the club's fans have gathered at the Chapeco stadium to mourn the loss of their heroes.
Brazilian clubs have offered to loan the club players, while final opponents Atletico Nacional have asked South American governing body Conmebol to award the club the trophy.
