Luis Suarez’s new mega contract extension to be confirmed ‘soon’, Barcelona president reveals

The Uruguayan striker signed for the Catalan side back in 2014 and has went on to be a massive hit in Spain

BARCELONA club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that lethal marksman Luis Suarez is set to extend his spell in Catalonia.

The Uruguayan striker has been prolific since leaving Liverpool in 2014, and has settled into life in La Liga seamlessly, being a part of the most deadly attacking trio in world football.

He is set to be rewarded for his exceptional form as Barcelona are desperate to keep the man that has scored 96 times in just a mere 115 appearances in all competitions.

Bartomeu told Uruguayan radio show Radio Visión y Cadena Celeste: "We will renew with Suarez, there are only a few small details left.

"It will be announced in the coming days or weeks and could be a great Christmas present.

"The plan is to extend it for the maximum amount of time, up to 2022 to coincide with the Qatar World Cup."

It's great news for Barca fans who saw Suarez open the scoring in El Clasico on the weekend, but saw their side pegged back after Sergio Ramos scored a late equaliser to earn a share of the spoils.

Last season, the former Ajax star netted 40 league goals, and as a result won the Pichichi trophy, awarded to the player who scores the most in La Liga.

He will become the latest player to sign a contract extension with the 2015 Champions League winners, with Brazil's Neymar prolonging his stay until June 2021.

Javier Mascherano, another former Reds idol recently extended his own love affair with Luis Enrique's men, signing on until after the 2018/19 campaign.

However they are yet to agree terms with legend Lionel Messi, he turned down a contract offer in the Summer, and speculation is mounting that he may be set to leave the club, with PSG set to be waiting in the wings.
