EVERTON have opened talks with Manchester United over a move for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Ronald Koeman made the France midfielder one of his top priorities for the January window and contact has been made between clubs.

Goodison chiefs hope to negotiate a cheaper price for the 27-year-old, whose departure will free up room in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Toffees boss Koeman will offer the guarantee of regular football after Schneiderlin found himself on the fringes at Old Trafford.

He has not started a league game this season and is behind Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera in the pecking order.

Koeman is willing to let James McCarthy, 26, leave to accommodate him with Crystal Palace interested in the Republic of Ireland ace.
