INSTANT REPLAY

Video replay used for the first time as referee awards historic penalty in Club World Cup… but he’s offside

Kashima Antlers awarded historic spot-kick by Viktor Kassai in clash with Atletico Nacional

VIDEO technology has been used for the first time in a football match as the Kashima Antlers were awarded a historic penalty in the Club World Cup.

Referee Viktor Kassai headed to the booth at the side of the pitch to penalise Atletico Nacional - but still managed to make the wrong call as the attacker was standing in an OFFSIDE position.

From a cross into the area, Antlers defender Daigo Nishi was fouled by Orlando Berrio.

None of the officials saw the incident at first, but Kashima players complained and after watching instant replay, Kassai awarded the penalty.

But it seems that the video didn't help as Nishi was standing in an OFFSIDE position, leading to anger from Atletico.
