Manchester United set for talks to land Benfica £42m-rated defender Victor Lindelof

MANCHESTER UNITED are in talks to land Benfica defender Victor Lindelof next month.

The Portuguese club want £42million for their Swedish centre-back, 22, who is being chased by a host of teams.

Reports in Portugal claim Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira has flown to England for talks with United over Lindelof, who only penned a new deal last season.
Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho has claimed he is happy with his squad, but can see huge potential in the Swede.
United will also lose Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly to African Nations Cup duty next month.

Mourinho could generate funds by offloading outcasts Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin in January.

But Benfica may have to drop their asking price as United’s need is no longer so great.

Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo’s form as centre-backs means they now have four players for that position, with Chris Smalling and Bailly.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has convinced the club to go to America on tour next pre-season.
United chiefs have agreed to his request for it to be held in America after their problems touring China last time.
