But according to newspaper El Tiempo, he is doing more than just visiting his family.

Rodriguez reportedly dropped into the British Embassy in Colombia's capital and filled out the necessary forms to gain a UK visa.

From there, he is making his way to his home city of Medellin where he will spend Christmas with his mum, Pilar Rubio, his wife, Daniela Ospina and his daughter Salome.

The midfielder has already said that he can't guarantee he will stay at the Bernabeu and told the press that he is considering offers for a January move.

He commented on the speculation: “I can’t promise I will stay at Real Madrid. I have offers and seven days to think [about them].”

But Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos wasn't impressed with the Colombian's lack of professionalism so soon after Los Blancos' World Club Cup victory, saying: “It’s not a day for personal issues.

“I hold him in high regard and I hope he stays, but today wasn’t a day to focus on other matters.”

The Colombian's potential transfer to England has been made more likely by FIFA's decision today to reduce Real Madrid's transfer ban to from two years to one.

That means Zinedine Zidane's side will be able to buy players from this summer.

Chelsea were willing to offer £75m for Rodriguez but it is believed that they could sign him for as low as £50m now the Galacticos can prepare to sign reinforcements.

The midfielder has been frozen out under Zidane and played no part in Real Madrid's controversial 4-2 World Club Cup win over Kashima Antlers.
