CRISTIANO RONALDO
IT'S been a year to remember for Ronaldo, even by the Real Madrid man's lofty standards.
As well as scoring 35 La Liga goals last term, he netted 16 of Real Madrid's 28 goals as they won the Champions League, helping him to win the Uefa Best Player in Europe award.
On top of that, Ronaldo essentially 'managed' Portugal to a famous Euro 2016 win, barking orders from the touchline as they snuck past France 1-0 in extra-time of the final, to go with three goals of his own.
LIONEL MESSI
THERE'S rarely a debate involving Ronaldo that doesn't involve Messi - and the Barca ace has had a superb year himself, starting with his fifth Ballon d'Or gong.
The Argentine forward notched an incredible 41 goals and 23 assists in all competitions through the 2015-16 season, to go with two hat-tricks in the Champions League, as he reached 500 career goals fro club and country/
On the international scene, Messi captained Argentina to a third major final in as many years at the Copa America, only to lose to Chile on penalties.
ANTOINE GRIEZMANN
FRENCH forward Griezmann enjoyed a terrific 2016, netting 22 La Liga goals for the second season running for Atletico Madrid.
On top of that, his performances led his side to their second Champions League final in three years, only to lose to rivals Real.
Griezmann went on to earn the Golden Boot at this summer's Euro 2016 with six goals - including both in the 2-0 win over Germany in the semi-finals - as his France ended up runners-up.
NEYMAR
ANOTHER part of Barcelona's unstoppable MSN trio, Neymar enjoyed a trophy-laden 2016.
He won the La Liga-Copa del Rey double as well as scoring the decisive penalty to clinch Olympic goal on home soil.
Neymar netted 24 La Liga goals from just 34 starts - as Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar combined for an outrageous 90.
LUIS SUAREZ
ON to the final leg of that fearsome front-three, former Liverpool man Suarez had a sublime season of his own.
The Uruguayan netted an astonishing 59 goals in just 53 games for Barcelona - including 40 La Liga strikes.
Suarez was even named Fifa Club World Cup Players of the Tournament after netting five goals in two games for yet another piece of silverware at the end of 2015.
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG
GABON forward Aubameyang kicked off his 2016 by getting his hands on the CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
From then on, the Borussia Dortmund man had a superb year, notching 25 Bundesliga goals as his side ended up second in the Bundesliga.
Aubameyang also struck 11 Europea League goals before Dortmund's elimination at the hands of Liverpool, before narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga Player of the Year award to Robert Lewandowski.
SERGIO AGUERO
ARGENTINE forward Aguero was in typically prolific form for Manchester City in 2016, netted 24 goals in the Premier League to finish second in the Golden Boot race.
In the process he roared past the 100-goal mark in the English top flight, as well as leading his side to the Champions League semi-finals and to League Cup glory.
Aguero also had a superb international year, leading Argentina to a second successive runners-up spot in the Copa America.
ALEXIS SANCHEZ
FROM runners-up to champion, Sanchez helped lead his Chile side to the Copa America at the expense of Argentina, winning the Golden Ball in the process with three goals.
The Chilean helped lead Arsenal to a surprise second-place finish in the Premier League after looking miles behind eventual champions Leicester and north London rivals Tottenham.
In 2016-17, Sanchez has thrived in a central striking role, reaching 50 Gunners goals en route to 12 so far in just 17 games.
GARETH BALE
WELSH wizard Bale warrants his place on this list if for no other reason than his heroics helping to lead Wales to an incredible semi-final spot at Euro 2016.
Later in 2016, he took the second spot on the list Wales' all-time top scorers.
Bale netted 19 La Liga goals for Real Madrid, despite numerous stints of the sidelines through injury, while also enjoying his second Champions League success.
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI
POLISH forward Lewandowski became the first man in 39 years to net 30 goals in a Bundesliga season as Bayern Munich won their fourth successive league title.
The German giants also won the DFB-Pokal, with a penalty shootout win over rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Lewandowski was also the only man to score against Portugal in the knockout stages at Euro 2016, despite losing that clash.
GONZALO HIGUAIN
A GOAL-LADEN 2016 helped Higuain land a mega-money move to Serie A giants Juventus this summer.
His scoring antics for Napoli - netting a record 36 times - eclipsed a 66-year record set by Gunnar Nordahl, thanks to a final-day hat-trick against Frosinone.
Argentinian ace Higuain then helped his side reach the final of the Copa America, only to lose to Chile in the final.
DIEGO COSTA
2016 started off reasonably slowly for the Spaniard as Chelsea fought their way back into the top ten in the Premier League.
But in 2016-17, the fiesty Spaniard has exploded back to the big time, netting a league-high 13 times already as the Blues have romped to the top of the table at Christmas.
Costa has been a brute up front this season, far too strong for any opposition defence and with the unique all-around striking ability to turn a match on its head.
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
JOINING the Premier League at the ripe-old age of 34 must be a daunting experience, but Ibrahimovic has more than taken it in his stride.
Now 35-years-old, Zlatan has still found the net a remarkable 11 times already in the Premier League.
On top of that, Ibrahimovic won his fourth Ligue 1 title in four years earlier in 2016 to remain one of the elite forwards in world football.
JAMIE VARDY
ONE of Leicester's dynamic duo, alongside Riyad Mahrez, as Claudio Ranieri's men got their hands on an incredible Premier League title, Vardy more than warrants a spot on this list.
The England forward netted 24 times - second best in the league and one behind compatriot Harry Kane - last term to fire the Fearless Foxes to the Prem crown.
On top of all that, Vardy cemented his place as an England regular and even travelled to his country's dismal Euro 2016 campaign, netting in the 2-1 win over eventual semi-finalists Wales.
HARRY KANE
FINALLY, it's time to mention the Premier League's top scorer for 2015-16, Kane.
The Spurs man was unstoppable at times in the league, en route to 25 top flight goals, ahead of Aguero, Vardy and Co.
Kane was also an integral member of the England squad all year, and despite cooling off towards the end of 2016, he still more than earns a spot in our final 15.
