Juventus 1 AC Milan 1 (4-5 pens): Chelsea loanee Mario Pasalic scores winning spot-kick to seal Italian Super Cup victory
Paulo Dybala missed vital penalty for Serie A champs to hand Milan first Supercoppa win in five years
CHELSEA loanee Mario Pasalic was the man of the moment as he scored the winning penalty to ensure AC Milan beat Juventus in the Italian Super Cup final.
Juve took the lead after just 18 minutes when veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini fired in a terrific effort from Miralem Pjanic’s whipped corner.
Alex Sandro was forced off injured after half an hour, with Patrice Evra replacing him at left-back.
But the Frenchman was barely on the pitch before Milan equalised through Giacomo Bonaventura after the winger latched on to a sublime ball by Suso.
Gonzalo Higuain looked like he had a point to prove after a dull first-half and very nearly put Juve back ahead with a fierce shot from the corner of the area.
Milan then struck the bar through Alessandro Romagnoli’s header before Sami Khedira saw his 25-yarder blocked by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Suso and Carlos Bacca then put Juve under immense pressure but neither could hit the back of the net with their respective efforts.
Paulo Dybala was introduced with 20 minutes remaining and quickly let fly with his left foot but saw the shot roll just wide of the goal.
Bacca missed an amazing chance to put his side ahead with seven minutes remaining when his close-range header was driven into the ground before hitting the upright.
The Colombian made it a hat-trick of mis-hits in added time after failing to make proper contact with another excellent ball from Suso, and both sides were then forced to go the distance to find a winner.
Bacca spurned another opportunity early on in extra time as Juve's defence were rattled by the guile and pace of Suso and Bonaventura.
Higuain saw his cries for a penalty dismissed when he fell to the ground ten minutes later before testing Donnarumma early in the second period.
Evra thought he scored the winning goal when his 110th minute strike was ruled out for offside.
And Dybala then missed a sitter when he skied his shot over the bar despite being right in front of goal.
