Earlier in the month, boss Unai Emery reportedly told the Argentine he needed to raise his game if he wanted to remain in the first team.

And after a poor performance away to Guingamp last week he was dropped with what Radio Monte Carlo called "an injury that suited everyone".

According to , a number of Chinese clubs would be keen to follow up the transfer of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG and Carlos Tevez's imminent move to Shanghai Shenhua with the big money acquisition of Di Maria.

The former Champions League winner moved to Old Trafford in 2014 for £59.7m before being sold on to the Parisian club a year later for just £44m after failing to board a plane to United's pre-season tour of the United States.

Red Devils fans will not be surprised to learn that Di Maria could be the latest player to move to the Far East.

On his day he was capable of the kind of brilliance that could attract millions of viewers in China to watch their national football league, such as his fantastic lob at Leicester away.

But despite many moments of magic, he has always been something of a luxury player who would go missing in games when he wasn't scoring or setting up goals.

If any match sums up the ex-Real Madrid star's career it would be the 2014 World Cup Last 16 game against Switzerland, where he scored an extra-time winner for Argentina after playing abysmally for nearly two hours.

Even if Di Maria decides China isn't for him, a move away from Paris is very much on the cards after the French champions yesterday agreed terms with Julian Draxler.

The Wolfsburg midfielder and former Arsenal target will join PSG for £38m.
