MANCHESTER CITY rebuild winning streak with third successive victory as goals from Yaya Toure, Kelechi Iheanacho and a Curtis Davies own goal pile more misery on Hull in the Premier League.

Although it was a quiet first half at the KCOM Stadium, Pep Guardiola was hit with another set back after £50million summer signing John Stones was forced off the field after picking up an injury.

As expected, City dominated possession but they struggled to create clear cut chances and despite their 72 per cent possession, they only had three shots on target in the opening 45 minutes.

Mike Phelan's men put in a great effort to enough to keep the title contenders at bay to go in at the break level.

After the interval Hull took the game to City but their extra attacking intent left gaps in their defence and Kevin De Bruyne rattled the near post with a cleverly disguised effort, which beat David Marshall all ends up.

The Tigers then piled on their own pressure which began from a Robert Snodgrass free-kick which he whipped into the box, which eventually earned the hosts a corner after City just about cleared the ball away.

The resulting corner then led to Michael Dawson looping a header over Claudio Bravo, only to be cleared off the line by Bacary Sagna.

De Bruyne continued to be a threat for City and his wonderful first touch gave himself half a yard in the box but he rifled his shot wide.

City finally broke the deadlock after 72 minutes when Yaya Toure calmly slotted home from the spot, after Andy Robertson lunged in and clumsily fouled Raheem Sterling in the penalty area.

Once in the lead City were more even comfortable in possession and had doubled their lead 18 minutes later through Kelechi Iheanacho as he was on hand to tap in David Silva's cross to claim his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

And City rubbed salt into the wounds of Phelan's side after Raheem Sterling fired the ball into the legs of Davies who scored an own goal in the dying seconds.

Hull manager Mike Phelan told the BBC: "The penalty was the major turning point.

"Andrew Robertson is heartbroken over it because he knows he has suffered a harsh lesson there - he has got to stay on his feet and shuffle the player across into an area where maybe his team-mate can do a little bit better at making an attempt to tackle."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola told the BBC: "I enjoyed it because we won but like always had to work hard for it. In the first half we forgot where the goal was, in the second half, our strikers saw the goal a bit more and after the first goal it was easy.

"There is always pressure for us because the top of the league is tough and the other teams at the top had won today. Every game we play is like a final."
